2nd Annual Hans Rey Riding Week

Mountain Biking Workshop/Vacation with Hans Rey in
Sicily, Italy

Come ride with Hans Rey the trails of Sicily, and learn from the master himself. From November 10 -17, 2001 will be the 2nd annual Hans Rey Riding Week, this year in beautiful Italy. The participants will be split in groups of different skill levels with maximum 13 persons per group. We’ll be staying in a beautiful beach front hotel on the Northern Coast of Sicily. The hilly country side offers quite a diversity of terrain with first class biking trails. Each group will have two days basic and advanced mountain biking workshops with Hans, and two guided tours with a local guide. There will also be a one day excursion/hike to the top of the active volcano Etna (without bike). If we’re lucky the volcano will spit some fire for us, but we’ll definitely enjoy the experience and views from above 9000 feet. One day will be open for everybody’s individual interests; to go sightseeing, relaxing, or more biking. The Hotel Kalura is situated a short bike ride (2 miles) outside of the medieval town of Cefalu with its nice Piazza, Cafés and shops. The temperatures are nice in November (average 70F), and it won’t be too cold to swim in the Mediterranean Sea. The Hotel has it’s own beach, swimming pools, a diving facility, and a disco. There will be a nice breakfast buffet and a big Italian dinner served at the hotel daily.

The Mountain Bike Workshops will be held around the hotel and on the nearby trails. We’ll stop frequently to practice certain situations and techniques. The course will cover everything: from bike set up to mental preparations, balancing, singletrails, speed, bike and body control, braking, bunnyhop, riding on and over obstacles, switchbacks, riding loose and technical sections, tri-poding, wheelies and whatever one always wanted to learn. The groups will be small enough so Hans can spend quality time with each individual. Hans has taught many workshops and clinics over the years, his way of teaching is very pleasant and effective; he has developed several pre exercises to slowly get the rider familiar with each technique. Groups will be split into different skill levels (beginners, advanced, experts). There will be different routes to choose from, depending on the desired difficulty, when riding with the local guide. Riders should be in good enough shape to do at least a 20mile tour in hilly terrain.
